    I want to start taking my pension - what's the process?

    If you're still paying into your pension you need to follow some steps, which starts with letting your employer know.

    How much of my pension can I take as a lump sum?

    You can normally take up to 25 per cent of the value of your pension as a tax-free lump sum when you retire.

    If I change my working hours, does that affect my pension?

    Your pension is based on what you earn, so it should only affect your pension if your pay is reduced.

    How do I update my beneficiary?

    You can do this via PensionPoint, your secure online account.

    How do I know if I am eligible for a death grant?

    You're always eligible for a death grant if you're still paying into your scheme (and sometimes if you're retired).

    What does my spouse/child get if I die?

    They may be entitled to receive a survivor's pension.

    I can't register, log in or change my password.

    How do I change my bank details?

    You can update your details via PensionPoint, unless your pension is with Ealing, Havering or Newham.

    How do I update my new address?

    You can update your address via PensionPoint.

    How do I change my relationship status or surname?

    Why have I been enrolled/re-enrolled to my pension scheme?

    Your employer sets up your pension account when you start your job and has to re-enroll you every three years.

    How much does my employer pay?

    The contribution amounts differ for each employer.

    Why is my refund less than I expected?

    This is likely to be due to tax deductions on your contributions.

    When / how will I get my payslips?

    You can access your payslips via PensionPoint, unless your pension is with Brent, Ealing Havering or Newham.

    How does the annual allowance increase affect me?

    It gives you a higher threshold (up to £60,000) of pension savings for the tax year.

    My tax code is wrong.

    Can I transfer all my pensions into this one?

    You may be able to transfer your pension, but you must do this within 12 months of joining your scheme.

    Can I transfer my pension out?

    You may be eligible to transfer your pension, but there are some restrictions.

    I am getting divorced, what do I need?

    You'll need to request details of your pension benefits (known as a Cash Equivalent Transfer Value or a CETV).

    How do I top up my pension?

    Depending on your scheme, you can do this in three ways - with an AVC, APC or added pension.

    What happens to my AVC, APC or added pension if I leave the scheme?

    Your extra contributions will stop. You may also have other options of what to do with your contributions, depending on the scheme rules.

    How do I reduce my contributions (50/50 option)?

    If you're an LGPS member, you have the flexibility to reduce your contributions and build up half your pension (the 50/50 option).

    When / how will I get my P60?

    Your P60 is usually available to view via your online PensionPoint account, no later than 31 May each year.

    What is a P60?

    A P60 is a statement that you receive at the end of each tax year (5 April), which shows your tax for the year.

    Your Annual benefit statements (ABS) will be available to view on PensionPoint by 31 August

    I can't find my transfer in on my statement?

    If your transfer was completed before 31 March 2023, the transfer will be included in your annual pension figures.

    How is my pension worked out?

    Your pension benefits are calculated based on your earnings and how long you’ve been in the scheme.

    What is an annual benefit statement (ABS)?

    Your ABS is a summary of your pension benefits for the year.
