If you're still paying into your pension you need to follow some steps, which starts with letting your employer know.

You can normally take up to 25 per cent of the value of your pension as a tax-free lump sum when you retire.
Your pension is based on what you earn, so it should only affect your pension if your pay is reduced.

Your employer sets up your pension account when you start your job and has to re-enroll you every three years.
The contribution amounts differ for each employer.

You may be able to transfer your pension, but you must do this within 12 months of joining your scheme.
You may be eligible to transfer your pension, but there are some restrictions.
You'll need to request details of your pension benefits (known as a Cash Equivalent Transfer Value or a CETV).
Depending on your scheme, you can do this in three ways - with an AVC, APC or added pension.

If you're an LGPS member, you have the flexibility to reduce your contributions and build up half your pension (the 50/50 option).
Your P60 is usually available to view via your online PensionPoint account, no later than 31 May each year.
A P60 is a statement that you receive at the end of each tax year (5 April), which shows your tax for the year.
If your transfer was completed before 31 March 2023, the transfer will be included in your annual pension figures.
Your pension benefits are calculated based on your earnings and how long you’ve been in the scheme.
Your ABS is a summary of your pension benefits for the year.
