It’s Get Online Week next week – so what better time to introduce you to a new face in the LPPA family?
Penny, 39, is a busy working mum with two young boys. She works as a social worker for her local council and is a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). She also likes to keep on top of her finances (the clue’s in her name) – especially her pension – but juggling work commitments with being a full-time mum means she doesn’t always have the time.
As it’s Get Online Week, she registered for our secure online portal, PensionPoint, and is about to reap the rewards.
Penny’s pension mission – what she wants to do
Penny’s on a mission to tackle her pension to-do list and is worried that between phone calls and form-filling it’s going to eat up her time. She would like to:

- Check her pension information
- Nominate her beneficiaries
- Calculate her pension benefits
- Check her pension scheme documents
- Change her address
After registering for PensionPoint, Penny realised that she was able to do all of these things online, when at home or on the go, and in minutes.

Checking her pension information
Penny has recently had a promotion at work, so she is contributing more to her pension and wanted to check her pension history to see how it’s looking.
Thanks to PensionPoint, she was able to log in online and check her pension information.

Nominating her beneficiaries
Penny wanted to nominate her two boys as beneficiaries to make sure she leaves them something behind, should something happen to her in the future.
She knew that nominating her beneficiaries would allow them to receive lump sum payments much quicker in the event of her death (as her pension fund would know exactly who she wanted to receive the payment).
With PensionPoint, Penny was able to nominate her beneficiaries in a couple of minutes. She simply logged in to her account and added the relevant details – with no need to print off or post any forms!

Calculating her benefits
Penny always likes to think about the future, so she wanted to get an idea of what her pension would look like when she finally decides to hang up her hat and retire.
After logging in to PensionPoint, Penny was able to use the portal’s online retirement calculators to get an online estimate. She even tried out a few retirement dates to see how it altered her benefits – no need to send any emails or contact any call centres!

Downloading her pension scheme documents
Penny was considering boosting her pension, by taking out an AVC (additional voluntary contribution) or an APC (additional pension contribution), depending on what her benefits looked like for the past year.
Thanks to PensionPoint, she was able to log in to her account and check her latest annual benefit statement (ABS) in the documents section of the portal. And she decided a little boost to her pension would go a long way.

Changing her address
Penny recently moved house and has been meaning to get in touch with LPPA to confirm her new address. She knows how important it is to make sure her personal details are all up to date.
Having registered for PensionPoint, she realised she could update her address (and other personal details) in minutes, without needing to phone us – so she went ahead and did it there and then!
