As we approach the end of the 2023-2024 financial year, we thought we’d pass on some tips and updates to make managing your pension scheme a little easier over the next 12 months. ​​​​​​​

Checklist: actions you need to take

Submit your March monthly data returns: remember to send yours by the end of April. For more information, click here

Check backdated pay: if any of your employees are affected by backdated pay increases, please add the details to your monthly data return. For help and support, click here

Don’t duplicate your leaver submissions: don’t forget, you no longer need to submit a leaver form for members with certain reasons for leaving (see here for further information), as the information will be picked up in your monthly return.

Make APP adjustments: remember, any assumed pensionable pay (APP) must be adjusted if an employee is absent from work for a period that crosses 31 March for two consecutive years. This year it’s 6.7 per cent. To find out more, click here

New contribution and APC rates

The new employee contribution rates that apply to the LGPS from 1 April 2024 are now on our website. You may also be interested in the latest APC figures, which are available in the latest LGA bulletin.

Carer’s leave regulations

New Carer’s Leave regulations have been announced and will take effect from 6 April 2024. They entitle employees to take one week’s unpaid leave in a 12-month period to provide care for a dependant who meets certain criteria, without it affecting their pension.

The 2024 CARE (Career Average Revalued Earnings) revaluation rates for the Police, Firefighters’ and Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) have been confirmed.
