Jacqueline's retirement story

Find out what Jacqueline did to take care of her health and wellbeing when she moved into retirement.

Case study

Name: Jacqueline

Age: 58

Occupation: Casual swimming instructor in retirement

I achieved a balance of walking and eating healthily.

I make sure I look after myself and give myself lots of me time by walking and reading, with plenty of good, healthy eating. This, in turn, helps me stay mentally and physically fit to have a healthy and strong relationship with my husband, who I support and look after.

I became a swimming instructor because I knew I was capable of helping others with their skills. When you work in management, you don’t have the ability to keep doing everything you love.

Teaching others how to swim is rewarding and giving young people an essential life-saving skill has many benefits. As long as I’m fit and able, I will continue to do so!

I think it’s extremely important. It’s important to look after yourself, to be safe and be happy.

My advice is to always make time for yourself. Be kind to yourself and others, communicate clearly with people, and get outdoors as much as possible!
